The Revolutionary Ranger Tug: R27 is Adventure Ready!
Cruising alongside an R29 through the waters of British Columbia, PassageMaker Magazine editor, John Wooldridge, had an opportunity to compare--and enjoy--the features of the R27 and R29. His experience easily went from one of comparison to one of complete understanding of the capabilities of the R27 and all it allows cruisers to do. Equipped with solar panels, a watermaker, portable freezer, kayaks and a dinghy, the boat handled off-the-grid cruising like any capable trawler. An efficient hull design in combination with fuel-efficient equipment made moving from one remote anchorage to the next a non-event. Ranger Tug 27: Gulf Island Getaway
In the December 2010 issue of Motor Boating magazine, Peter Janssen discovers that the R27 proves to be an ideal platform for a short cruise through the Canadian Gulf Islands. He had the opportunity to pilot a new R27 from Nanaimo, British Columbia, to Anacortes, Washington, and was able to put the boat through her paces all the while following an R29 on the 100 mile cruise. From the Garmin electronics to the amount of living space on board to the ability to trailer the boat, Peter was both pleasantly surprised and comfortable during his time aboard. 3/10/2010 - We finally got the snow shoveled off and launched our Ranger Tugs. In the sea trials we ran, their performance was excellent – sometimes even exceeding the factory-provided specs. She turned out to be impressively stable in beam seas and remarkably quiet. The standard bow and stern thrusters took all the adventure out of docking!
All three of our Ranger Tugs - the Ranger 21, 25, and 29 - are now ready by appointment for your visit and a sea trial. Splash!
3/1/2010 - Time to go boating - snow's gone (mostly) - and the Rangers are ready. Today we splashed our Ranger 25. She fired right up and after some cleaning will be ready for visits from prospective Ranger owners. Let us know if you'd like to visit us and try a Ranger on for size.
Jabin's Yacht Yard in Annapolis is the new home for the tugs themselves. It is nearby our offices and convenient for taking short demonstration runs. Today we took a demonstration run from the Travel Lift pit to a slip - probably all of 100 yards as you can see from the track on the Garmin plotter, but she ran great. We'll do some more serious shaking down this week.

What Blizzard?
2/7/10 You may have heard - we had a bit of snow over the weekend. Our Tugs are none the worse for wear - turns out they are watertight from the top down as well as from the bottom up. That is a good thing.
Team Chesapeake Ranger dug out the cockpits to deal with the inevitable thaw and freeze behavior of Mother Nature, and to prepare for another 6-12" forecast in the next two days.
